An Experiment in Remote Viewing with Russell Targ

Russell Targ is an American physicist who is known for his work on remote viewing. I’ve participated in an experiment in remote viewing with him. This is what happened.

Paola Harris: Let’s do the experiment! … Get a piece of paper and a pencil. … We’re so honored to have Russel Targ lead us through an experiment…¹

Russell Targ: I brought you a very interesting object. … I’ll just say it’s interesting. … Close your eyes. Take a couple of deep breaths. … Quiet your mind. … You’re looking for surprising images that show up in your awareness even if it doesn’t make any sense. … You’re not trying to make a representational drawing. You want to just draw the image you see… Only you know the image in your mind, so you can’t do this wrong… All I want you to do is using your pencil, make a little sketch of the surprising image that pops up into your awareness… This image will be a surprise. So when you see it…your first reaction when I show you the object is, what the hell is that? But that’s all right… Right now, make a sketch of the surprising thing. … What you’re looking for is a surprising thing that I’m going to show you… [Pause] I’ll give you a couple of minutes to make your drawing. Make a nice clear drawing as though we’re going to publish this drawing. … We’ll see a nice clear picture of what shows up in your mind, and then in another minute or two I will show the object… You’re going to get an extra minute while I find out how to undo my zipper. You want to finish up your drawing. … You’ll be very disappointed if I pull this out of my bag and you say, oh my God, that’s just what I saw, but I didn’t know how to draw it. You got to make an effort to draw. Everybody has to make an effort to draw something. The rules of the game is you got to have something on the paper. And the reward is I’ll show you your object.²

Three surprising images, or rather sensations, appeared in my awareness (in the order listed):

1. Something wriggly.
2. Something round.
3. Something cupped.

The hidden object was a statue of the Dancing Shiva.
