This is a retrospective of week 1, 2025 (2024-12-30–2025-01-05).
This week I’ve listened to Andreas Weber,1,2 Predrag Slijepčević,3 Stephan Schwartz,4 and Christopher Key Chapple.5 I’ve continued listening to Elain Pagels,6,7 whom I mentioned last week. I’ve also read Beyond the Brain by Jeffrey Mishlove this week. Below are some highlights (my emphasis):
Andreas Weber on Life and Love
What is actually life? So in life, we have matter, and we have the desire to keep this matter together. And that’s what is inside of all of us. And when I say all of us, I mean, all living organisms. So in life we have a tendency to carry on and to keep ourselves somehow closed, and somehow in unfolding, in expansion, in wholeness. And this happens on matter. And the crazy thing is that matter is not identical with this living centre. We actually know, we feel, we are. Matter is not a substantial substance, a substantial basis of living identity, because matter is that which always passes through living beings. It’s actually very simple…, but it’s something which is somehow in the shadow of scientific thinking, because it doesn’t really fit.

To love is to be interested in the aliveness of the other.

Predrag Slijepčević on Life and Consciousness
My own view is that … the main quality of life, actually, is cognition—the capacity to know things. And the huge difference between living and non-living is [that]… the machines we’re trying to produce—they don’t know, they can’t understand, they’re simply programmed to do what we ask them to do. But…all living organisms … have the same feature and that [is] sentience, and consciousness…

Life is greater than science wants us to believe.
—Predrag Slijepcevic https://youtu.be/PYVF2QQLnPM?t=2166
Stephan Schartz on Consciousness
Understanding that we live in a matrix of consciousness, and that it is interdependent and interconnected, is the only way we are going to successfully get through climate change and make the right decisions.
—Stephan Schwartz https://youtu.be/y1qlUbXxvUs?t=2506
What we can say is that consciousness has a non-local aspect, that there is continuity of consciousness…

Christopher Key Chapple on Power (Over)
Too many people have garnered a fair amount of personal power and then inflicted that upon others.

Bring it all back to the heart.
—Christopher Key Chapple https://youtu.be/0PDU5lW5Eug?t=3904
Elain Pagels on (Religious) Traditions
I think many people leave these established traditions because they just don’t speak to them. I mean they’re old news. I mean…especially Christianity has been turned into a set of dogmas in the 4th Century, a set of doctrines, and I think that’s very unfortunate. People are looking for something more experiential, and more powerful than that, and more meaningful.

You are part of this astonishing spiritual energy from which everything comes. And when you realize that, you know what? you may not need a church. You may not even need Jesus, because he comes from the same light. You can find a way to God on your own.

Jeffrey Mishlove on (Living) Consciousness
We won’t understand normal human consciousness until we come to grips with the fact it operates outside our four-dimensional, spacetime matrix.
—Jeffrey Mishlove, Beyond the Brain, 85
The bottom line is that we partake in the living consciousness of the universe.
