I am currently reading Maslow on Management. I find it very fascinating when Maslow says that “creativeness is correlated with the ability to withstand the lack of structure, the lack of future, lack of predictability, of control, the tolerance for ambiguity, for planlessness“. I find this fascinating because what is usually emphasized in business settings is predictability, control, schedules, and a planned-out future. That is why planning is emphasized so much since it is an attempt to anticipate and prepare for anything that might come up in the future. Maslow asks why “… don’t we trust ourselves to have good judgment, even in an unanticipated situation?” Maslow goes on and asks “Why can’t we wait until we have experiences piling up in the situation and then make whatever rules are necessary as a kind of formulation of actual experience in the actual situation.” Doesn’t this sound agile?
