Retrospective 2020-05–18

This is a summary of my reading and painting during the last three months (week 5–18, 2020).

Painting

I love painting flowers. Here are my other paintings.

Reading

I have read the following books:

  • Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art by Stephen Nachmanovitch
  • The Art of Is: Improvising as a Way of Life by Stephen Nachmanovitch
  • How Children Learn, 50th Anniversary Edition by John Holt
  • Learning All The Time by John Holt
  • The Safety Anarchist: Relying on human expertise and innovation, reducing bureaucracy and compliance by Sidney Dekker
  • Two Cheers for Anarchism: Six Easy Pieces on Autonomy, Dignity, and Meaningful Work and Play by James C. Scott
  • On Anarchism by Noam Chomsky
  • Living My Life by Emma Goldman [pdf]
  • Hiding in Plain Sight: The Invention of Donald Trump and the Erosion of America by Sarah Kendzior
  • LSD and the Mind of the Universe: Diamonds from Heaven by Christopher M. Bache
  • The Betrayal of the Self: The Fear of Autonomy in Men and Women by Arno Gruen

I have started reading:

  • Leadership, New and Revised: The Inner Side of Greatness, A Philosophy for Leaders by Peter Koestenbaum
  • Demanding the Impossible: A History of Anarchism – Be Realistic Demand the Impossible by Peter Marshall.
  • Corporate Tides by Robert Fritz
  • Managing (in) Networks: Learning, Working and Leading Together by Timo Järvensivu
  • Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl
  • Becoming Animal: An Earthly Cosmology by David Abram

Improvisation and learning is essential for meaningful work, as is anarchism. Sidney Dekker’s The Safety Anarchist: Relying on human expertise and innovation, reducing bureaucracy and compliance is about safety, but Dekker’s message is as applicable to quality, and work in general.
